I do not agree with you that Mustafa Kamal has been exposed because of the clarification done in a blog post by the editor of Foreign Policy. The news was reported in all electronic and print media. Dawn which is considered a reliable newspaper carried this news on the front page.

Even after the clarification of Foreign policy regarding the ranking, the fact remains that he has done a lot for the city. It is perhaps for the first time that development work is being done with a sense of planning.

Even if the magazine does not rank him in the strict sense of the word, it does rank him in the top mayors of the world. It also counts him in the mayors of the moment. Instead of appreciating the good work being done in the city, you chose to regale yourself that he was not actually ranked.

Karachi stands better than Bangalore and Kolkata. And its ranking has definitely gine up. In 2004, Karachi was not even in the list of top 100. In 2006, it was 74th.

I lived in Karachi too. Never heard of such a thing happened to me or any of one I know.
Plus how MQM people were able to do all that right after Karachi operation, (when they were literally exterminated) as they won the next election too with almost same strength???

Yes, Mustafa Kamal has done well!! But lets take a look back at the previous city Govt, I feel the whole development process was initiated by Naimatullah Khan while he didn’t get even a fraction of the appreciation or lime light Mustafa Kamal is getting. I don’t understand why make such a hoopla out of a mayor of moment or whatever award, after all we pay heavy taxes for all the development work. Secondly, the only way I would feel good about the city and Mustafa Kamals work is when Karachi will become a street crime free city, a city where one can roam at night without the fear of running into robbers, where I won’t need to have a security system at my house (not sure if the security stuff comes under the city govt., nonetheless MQM is part of the provincial govt. at least). And , personally I believe MQM has what it takes to eradicate street crimes only if they WANT to take it on.

After the torrential rain on the night of 29 July 2008, (It rained 70mm in just 2 hours, which is unusual for Karachi), people of Karachi for the first time witnessed no water logging on Karachi’s main roads nest morning…thanks to Mustafa Kamal’s vision, who overhauled the city’s drainage system before reconstructing the roads. I said in my first comment that people hate MQM and Mustafa Kamal for the sake of hatred only, without any concievable reason.

Nomination by definition is to designate as suitable for ultimate presentation as state of the art , a qualifier , a representation ,designated authority, a responsible ,a front man ,a contrast ,unmatchable ,an insignia , a symbol, a crown prince and as many words and terms of excellence and designation as credentials that puts man in lieu of honor and award as reward.

It is the awarded prerogative as master piece that demarcate different entities as sorting thereby exercising as feedback and slogan that nominee has differentiated capabilities as quality and calibrated grooming as work which in no way be neglected within different masses of same qualification.

In a group of contestant where numerical position is a prerequisite and essential criterion, selection is the only criteria which sort out masses thus individualizing individual in to minimum number so to award ranking as legendary or in numerical representation if contestant have equal depth of capabilities.

It is this concept of selection as choose that results in to numerical representation ,not on the basis of preference and priority but to place the individual as precision and consignment, thereof to put one over the other as means of numerical understanding and symbol of excellence though under no way their art of excellence have weightage over the other.

Contestant have natural tendency to be appraised as moral whereas supporters are by nature designed to upraise their contestant as the unique and ultimate winner.

In a class room of 50 children ranking can be from one to fifty but numerical representations as excellence has the prerogative of first few. However, the same does not mean, the rest are failure.

This sorting among same colleague of similar class is to lineate individual whose capacity as qualification and excellence as understanding is better and impressive than the fellows.
