I have been forwarded these pictures of a famous religious poet [naat khawan] Owais Raza Qadri [official website] which I am told were taken last year when the poet received the Govt of Pakistan award for the Best Naat Khawan of 2007, and the consequent celebration was telecasted live on QTV [Quran TV].
Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri, 38 year old young man has achieved much and is a highly celebrated Naat Khawan with many TV appearances in various channels across Pakistan and to add to his fame he also has quite a large number of much sought after naat audio albums to his name
These are two images, both showing him sitting on a weighing scale while he is being weighed in gold, in certain sects of Islam this actually signifies a mark of respect for a Naat Khawan who has sung many naats in praise of Muhammad (PBUH), mind you this gold is not for any personal benefit but is actually going towards Zakat charity alone [I am told].

Alhaj Muhammad Owais Raza Qadri, born on 8th. July 1970 in Karachi, Pakistan]. He is Intermediate in academic qualifications. He has performed several Hajj and Umras, the first Umra being in 1992 while the first Hajj in 1996. His favorite personality is Alahazrat, Mujaddid-e-Din-o-Millat Imam Shah Ahmed Raza Khan Barelvi. He started reciting naats at the age of 8. He was inspired by AlHaaj Yousuf Ashrafi (late) who was his ideal Naat Khawan. He did not take special naat classes but acquired the companionship of good, pious “Ushaqaan-e-Rasool“. Reciting the Naat of Imam-e-Ahle-sunnat, Alahazrat Shah Ahmed Raza Khan Sahib Barelvi is liked by Owais Raza Qadri. His first album was released in 1983 and after that numerous albums have been released.
I actually choose to question the reasoning behind this elaborate ceremony, our so called preachers of Islam I fear will in effect set a bad precedence for future generation of muslims, transforming the religion from a simple faith based religion into a tradition filled bidat prone Islam far different from the one conceived by our Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) some 1400 years back.
This is naturally my own personal opinion and I do not mean to disgrace any religious leader as I am open to discussion below on what is right or wrong as I truly feel that herein lies one answer to the reckless religion problem prevalent in Pakistan. Literally with so many flavors of Islam being preached on the streets of Pakistan we have definitely lost our purity and have in turn opened the door to a pandoras box of Islamic beliefs, ranging from the pure simplicity concept towards the overtly complicated ritual based Islam and intermingled somewhere in between we have the suicide motivator mullah preaching the students to use the bomb vest as an immediate pathway to heaven. Is this what Islam was truly meant for? Is this what was preached to us 1400 years back? that said I am sure it was surely NOT this ritualistic gold weighing ceremony of Maulan Owais Raza Qadri conducted on live TV. Is this what we want our future generations to believe in. I know that I am most definitely stepping into hot territory but feel its high time we stepped up to answer this question.

The meaning of word Mohammad or Ahmed is 'the praised one' . But where in any verse of Quran or any authentic Hadeeth do you find any reference that we are supposed to praise Prophet Mohammad . I have already explained Surah Ahzab Verse 56 , that we are supposed to send blessings and salutations of peace to our prophet , these same salutations are sent by Allah and the angels to the momins as well to bring the momins out of the darkness into the light .
33: 43 He [Allah] it is Who sends blessings on you [yousalli 'alaykum] as do His angels that He may bring you out from the depths of Darkness into Light: and He is Full of Mercy to the Believers.
So dont construe any false meanings to the Quranic verse by adding your culture to it . Never in the Quran has ALLAH said AlhamduMohammad , seems odd doesnt it . Allah has always said ALHAMDULLILAH (all praises belongs to HIM) .
And no where has Prophet Mohammad asked his followers to praise him . The Prophet has always asked musalman to follow him rather than praising him . We dont follow the sunnats but just inventions and whats easy for us , that is our dillemna .
Owais Raza Qadri is not my brother , he is not a deeni bhai . I am Millat e Ibraheem , crooks and showmen like these are not allowed in Millat e Ibraheem . And I am not backbiting , I am opening the eyes of the summum , bukmun , ummun people in here .
Verse no 46:9 doesnt mention judgement anywhere , Instead of God is the only one who can judge humans , it says "I only follow that which is revealed to me, and I am but a plain warner."
That doesnt mean that judgement belongs to any other than ALLAH . But its not mentioned here , please quote correctly next time . Anyhow muslims are supposed to practise (Amr bil maroof wa anhona anil munkir)

The Prophet Salallahu alayhi wasalam said: "And the Prophets alaihi wasalam,were formerly sent to their people only, whereas I have been sent to all mankind." [Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

If you all are referring to this as your excuse not to praise Allah's Beloved Sallallahu alaihi wasalam, then you have misunderstood. As the Christians praised the son of Mary is part of the explanation. The Christians rever Prophet Isa alayhi salam as the son of God, partner to God and even as God.
We are in no way saying that Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu alaihi wasalam is any of these. This is where the distinction is. The distinction that you are ignoring.
Believe, honour and respect him (48:9) (61:11).

On Backbiting
O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion, in deed some suspicions are sins. And spy not neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would hate it (so hate backbiting). And fear God, verily, God is the one who accepts repentance, Most Merciful. (49: 12)
Say to My servants that they should only say those things that are best, for Satan does sow dissensions among them, for Satan is to man an avowed enemy. (17:53)
Judging others
Quran 46:9 Say: "I am no bringer of new-fangled doctrine among the apostles, nor do I know what will be done with me or with you. God is the ONLY one who can judge humans.
Alhamdulillah, I do read the Quran and Hadith. I do not follow hearsay or follow blindly.

“The Prophet (Muhammad) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in God, His Angels, His Books, and His prophets. (They say,) ‘We make no distinction between one another of His prophets...’” (Quran 2:285)
“And ask (O Muhammad) those of Our prophets whom We sent before you: ‘Did We ever appoint gods to be worshipped besides the Most Merciful (God)?’” (Quran 43:45)
“And We did not send any Messenger before you (O Muhammad) but We revealed to him (saying): ‘none has the right to be worshipped but I, so worship Me.’” (Quran 21:25)
The Noble Qur'an 2:136

Now , we can correctly say that the Hadeeth that you quoted is Zaeef , Prophet Mohammad the truthful messenger cannot say such thing which will contradict Quran .
About the ayat that you quoted about Salat o Salam .
Salat means blessings and Salam means salutations and peace . How dare you say that we are supposed to praise the prophet ? We are not supposed to praise the prophets but only ALLAH is worthy of all praises . Here is another verse
"SURAH ANBIYA [about prophets](27. They speak not until He has spoken, and they act on His command.) (28. He knows what is before them, and what is behind them, and they cannot intercede except for him with whom He is pleased. And they stand in awe for fear of Him.) (29. And if any of them should say: "Verily, I am a god besides Him,'' such We should recompense with Hell. Thus We recompense the wrongdoers.)

"Undoubtedly, Allah and His Angels send blessings on the Prophet (the Communicator of Unseen News), O you who believe ! Send upon him blessings and salute him fully well in abundance" (Surah al-Ahzab, Verse 56).

LA ILAHA ILLALLAH MUHAMMADUN RASULULLAH
I understood that You would not place next to Your Name but the Most Beloved One of Your creation. Allah said: O Adam, I have forgiven you, and were it not for Muhammad I would not have created you."
If our Beloved Prophet Sallallahu alayhi wasalam was not created then we certainly we not have been created. We should love and praise him more than anyone.
"Oh Allah, please forgive us and show us the straight path, the path of your Beloved".

Why do we think we all know better. Everyone that says something bad about another is backbiting (doing gheebah). This is a major sin.
Before saying something is a bidat or shirk, one should know what these words mean. With bidat, there is the good and bad.
We should always look at ourselves first and foremost and NEVER talk ill of another. How would you feel if someone talked ill of you behind your back. There are many more important things to worry about, ie. praying regularly, zakat, treating everyone as equal.
Something I have taken to heart recently is how many women in Pakistan and abroad shape and pluck their eyebrows. There is a hadith telling us that those who do, are cursed by Allah and the Prophet Sallalahu alayhi wasalam. Allah knows best.

Y we should always make wahabis understand, THEY CANT coz Allah have put veil on their eyes. so better not to discuss Islam coz for them Islam became a debate platform for them its worthless to discuss they only know to attack people who dont know islam lyk youngsters which they can a majority throughout the world. Me only what ocuppied me is that Y they dont debate with Aaleem e Deen instead debating with People. They only know that Bukhari Shareef as authentic Hadith but "how they know in Kabr there is 3 question as in bukhari shareef there is only 2 question". what on earth are you talking about Nabeel??? ok some parts were right about the sects and stuff but why are saying that reading a naat is wrong, and where on earth can you see poeple dancing???? we read the naat because we have love for the prophet (saw) i dont get why you think this is a bad thing?? im sure youve heard a sahaba used to read poetry (naat) to the prophet (saw) and the prophet (saw) liked it. do you read durood sharif in namaz? yes or no ofcourse you do that is sending durood, salaam and blessings on the prophet (saw) and reading the naat is durood and blessings too if you think reading naat is wrong then why do you read durood in namaz? omg you poeple just dont want to understand OPEN YOUR EYES! do you follow sunnat of prophet? ofcourse you do. why do you do it? because you have love for the prohpet (saw) which is why we read naat because we have love for prophet Muhammad (saw) and we get sawaab for sending blessings on the prophet (saw) and i agree with Muhammad Asaad :) please OPEN YOUR EYES! furthermore, I would also like to mention that some ways may look misleading but in fact they are not. many people think that everything is haram in islam exept what is stated to be halal. In fact its the other way around, every thing is halal in islam except what is stated to be haram. similarly this celebration is also halal if it does not break the laws of the shariah. one should bear in mine that islam allows u to do everything but with limits due to valid reason which many people like me and u dont have the brain to think about, so we do not realise. instead we argue over such useless points. many of us even read the translation of the quran and thus dont know the meaning. further we also havent read the full hadith books. i can garantee 100% that no one who has posted their cmment here knows the quran or hadith properly ont even me. many think that just because theve read the translation of the quran and/or the hadith books they know their stuff, which in fact is not the case. such books need to be tuaght to us in the original languge and not in its translation. without this propel study we just fight over some random topic thats been posted on the internet with the half of the story. i mean how many of you in here have seen the full broadcating before looking at the two pictures and reading this page. many stupid people have just posted half of vid on youtube only showing owais bhai sitting on the wieghing scale andd name it such as belvi exposed etc. its so stupid why do such thing. what would you think if u seen only these two pics for the first time. ive seen the whole programe live and they said at the begginning that they will wiegh owais bhai in gold and sell the gold off and then use the money for charity.
people must think but without knowing the full thing they shouldnt past it on to others as doubts are crated and such doubts a dangrous. however, people celebrating in a such way should take care not beacause they doing anyting wrong. but because they should think for future generation. future generation will see this and people that are not propley educated will fight over this and some will think it right will do it over and over agian until it becomes a tradition. now here it gets wrong, this is why they should try to aviod such activities which doesnt neccessarly means that it becomes haram. this is why there are limitations in islam. for example naats itself, there no where in the quran or the hadith stated that naats are haram. there halal. but music is haram due to the fact that it makes people do nxt level things if they get too passionate about singing etc. naats are allowed as naats are to praise the prophet muhammad pbuh. however you can not make the prophet into god so say something like i see god in you, which wrong and it become a shirk. some people do this in naats, and especially in songs. this is why music is haram and only the daff (one sided light sound drum) is allowed. therefore in such occasions on tv channels they should bear in mind if this done of show off who care you just keep your intention clean and if you think that this is wrong then just avoid it.
this is not wrong according to islam. this celebration is totally halal. however, if future generations follow this and if such projects by qtv or other channels become a tradition then it will truly become haram and bidah. otherwise they have not crossed their limited as many people think so what if its innovational idea etc. but is doees not go against the quran and sahih hadith.

Does any 1 remember Moses (Musa) leading the Bani Israel out of the bondage of Egypt into the land of Canaan and their the Jews fell into idol worship when Moses was not present .
