A number of reports continue to pour in stating that Imran Khan did show up at Punjab University to present himself in the rally scheduled there for today. A group of students belonging to a another political party (Islami jamiat Talaba, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami) colluded with the administration and huddled Imran Khan into their offices where they reportedly gave him a thrashing and then quietly shuttled him into a waiting police van

Imran Khan defiant in police custody LAHORE, Pakistan, Nov 14 (AFP) Former Pakistan cricketer and chief of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf Imran Khan told AFP from police custody he was trying to start a student movement against emergency rule when he was arrested on Wednesday after more than a week in hiding. “I came to the university to lead a rally of students against the dictator Musharraf and his illegal actions, Khan said. “I would have presented myself for arrest in full public view but my goal was to set in motion a student movement. Khan spoke to AFP by telephone shortly after he was detained while trying to lead a rally at Lahore’s Punjab University. He said he was betrayed by a group of students. “The majority of the students were with me there but a group of them from Islami-Jamiat-Tuliba collaborated with the administration and police, Khan said. “They took me into the office and then forced me out into a van. They did not allow me to be arrested publicly. He added: “I have achieved my purpose. I have started the student movement, I have set the tone for it. Police earlier confirmed they had arrested Khan and would place him back under house arrest, which he slipped out from more than a week ago.
Geo News reports
Imran Khan arrested Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan was arrested here Wednesday after he emerged from hiding for the first time since emergency rule was imposed. Khan appeared at Punjab University in Lahore ahead of a planned protest against President Pervez Musharraf and was immediately pushed inside a campus building by a crowd of students. However, a student organization has reportedly locked Imran Khan in a room at the Punjab University demanding of Imran to leave the university at the earliest. The former cricket captain, who now leads his own opposition party, was placed under house arrest on November 3 after the state of emergency was declared, but slipped the net days later and had been in hiding ever since.

shame on all who participated in the arrest of the most petriotic Leader of Pakistan. In my humble opinion after the great qauid, Pakistan produced only 2 world class personalities and the real heroes 1) Imran khan 2) AQ khan. As a nation we r giving them the full respect , Aq khan is under house arrest for last 3 years and other one is in jail too.
Congrats

I live in the U.S; feel terrible when being asked that I am a Pakistani. Not just Imran but I feel sorry for whole country. I am sorry because there is nothing I can do… I am hopeless…..

Piss off Jamiat
I never liked Imran as a politician, but from no my alll sympathies are with him.
Piss off Jamiat
I am really disappointed with Jamiat, I cant believe someone can do all this with Imran Khan.
after 1947, pakistani nation get only real good news and that was world cup 92, all credit goes to Imran.
after 1947, pakistani nation get only 1 good charitable institute (SKMCH), credit goes to Imran.
I will request Imran to leave Pakistan as Pakistani nation is not able to bear a great person lyk him.
I am not in Pakistan. I was not worried wheen emergency imposed in Pakistan coz it was expected. Today when I see tv I cried literally to see what is happening with Imran Khan.
Piss off Jamiat, a big shame

I’m really sorry the majority of students who were supporting Imran did not realize what was happening and didn’t beat the crap out of those idiots. Anyone (Najam Sethi etc.) accusing Imran of being a fundo need to have their heads examined. Its a shamful day for our unfortunate country when someone like him is treated like this and manhandled by government toadies…don’t give in Imran!!

Finally. A rude awakening for Immy Khan. He was beaten up and handed over to the cops yesterday by the Islami-Jamiat-Taleba students at the Punjab University. I’ve been saying all along, he is deluding himself by constantly allying himself with the Jamaat. How much more naive can the man be. Anyone who’s had any contact with IJT and the Jamaat has to be blind not to realize that the mullahs will even hand in their grandmothers for power’s sake … and, of course, for Islam’s.
Let’s hope, this hairy beating makes Imran a better, more perceptive (and less rhetorical), politician.
by

I used to agree with the philosophies of IJT but now i hate them, they are in the same category as of Fazlur Rehman.
I have no doubt that high command of Jamat-i-Islami is after this. They ordered those Jamatis to beat Imran Khan and hand him over to police fearing their decreasing popularity.

Shame on these so called ‘religious’ parties. Time and agin they have proven that MMA stands for Mulla Military Alliance. This bunch of … can only deliver speeches and take crores of rupees first to sign the 17th amendment, then to sell off their votes during senate elections and now this shameful act. Such parties are a constant source of defamation to our religion as they portray themselves to be the ‘thekedars’. Shame on them and shame on people who support them

I m so sorry for the poor guy, Imran
He is so courageous, intelligent and petriotic. All the things that you expect in a good leader but how can he break through this system. He is the only one who can lead us getting rid of all this mess but how, I dont know. Like Quaid-e-Azam said, “mairee doonoon jaiboon main khootay sikay hain”. He has also been surrounded by same people.
I used to like Jameeyat when I was a teen ager n used to argue a lot with my friends n family members who disliked them. Critics of Jamiat always told me that they r hyprocrates. I think they were right. They have always been like this. I think, I recognised them a little later.
Shame on you JTI, JI and MMA.
Keep it up Imran/PTI

Well done Punjab University for setting an example to other srudents to prevent the politicians using them for their own sinister objectives.
Now, after destroying the successes achieved during the last few years, the politicians have turned towards the educational institutions to destroy their future in pursuit of their sinister objectives to get power, and pocket the huge foreign reserves built up by this government.
We are already one of the most illiterate nations in the world. The students should focus on making Pakistan strong, not tear it apart.

IJT once a party that every single student was proud to be associated in one or another mean but for last 8 years since Musharif apppered on the screen off politics These so called representatives of Islam put a side teachings that they use to promote regarding democracy and right path,What they played a role of MIR JAFFER (MAULANA FAZUL-UR-REHMAN) and MIR SADIQ (QAZI HUSSAIN AHMED) .But let me add they done better then those.Proved that this nation cnt move fwd till we people throw them out of the assemblies.
Being a youngster and student I wana say friendz cnt we start some thing its not about ANTI MUSHREF its against the ANTI MUSHRIF ACTIONS .This man is not taking off the uniform coz for him this uniform is protection provided by USA they day he took it off I promise you people that he will no longer part of Pakistan’s politics.

to me imran khan is courageous person who always dares to say word against cruelty. what ever happened to him is completely humiliating for the whole nation.
i’ve been intouch with news since emergency launched, i saw awesome vedios police beating the layers and some other innocent people. why these atrocities on the our own nationals? beacause we demand the freedom of justice and true democracy, which is the government elected by people for the people. tell me who elected q-leauge and who elected musharraf? were they transparent elections? i need everyone to ask from your conscience.
in short, musharraf needs only to rule on Pakistan at any cost and by any means.

Imran Khan was arrested after going to the University of Punjab in Lahore to address a student protest against President Pervez Musharraf. It was the first time he’s been seen in public since he went into hiding soon after the state of emergency was declared.
Khan was initially held hostage by the Islami Jamiat- i-Taliba, Pakistan’s oldest and largest university student movement, at the campus’ physics department.
This was after clashes broke out between the students of the Islami Jamiat-
i-Taliba and the supporters of Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (Movement for Justice) party.
Qazi Hussain Ahmed, the chief of the main Islamic party of Pakistan, Jamaat- i- Islami, sent another leader of his party, Amirul Azeem, to rescue Khan but the students of the Islami Jamiat- i-Talaba handed him over to the local police.
The Islami Jamiat- i-Taliba movement is ideologically allied with Pakistan’s main Islamic party, the Jamaat- i- Islami and Khan is said to be close to Qazi Hussain Ahmed. However, at the same time, many Pakistani politicians, including several government ministers have previously been members of the University of Punjab student movement.
Police earlier confirmed they had arrested Khan and would place him back under house arrest, which he slipped out from more than a week ago.

This is a good job of Islami Jamiet Talaba.
This is not their fault. This is the misunderstanding of Imran khan. He was not allowed to come and no body invites him. Wo phir bi aya. Agar itna hi leader tha tu mall road pa kuyn nai nikla. Punjab uni main students akathay hoye tu politics chmkanay phnch gya.

What is that argument we get to hearfrom some stupid jamiat people and even from one teacher in YOUTUBE video that Imran was not a student, employee or related to Punjab University so he was an Alien. First of all, Punjab University is not a private institution. It is a state owned educational instituition is and can never be alien to any pakistani national. Secondly i personally know so many people who once were student of that university but keep living there under the protection of Jamiat and keep acting as vigilante for moral enforcement. If Jamiat allows those small time ghundas to keep operating out of the campus even though they are not student or employee of the university then why would they object to Imran’s presence there.
Although what Jamiat did to Imran was abhoring and deplorable but it worked out right. It increased the stature of Imran’s leadership in the eyes of the average Pakistani’es like me and at the same time it dented the hegemony of Jamiat in Punjab University.
Just for this incident I have decided to join PTI and will do my best to help strenghten Imran’s movement for justice.
